Half-court and full-court booking

Let customers book one end of a basketball court on its own — or both ends together as a full court — with the price and the calendar staying correct either way.

Before you start

Have these ready

  • A decision on which courts you actually rent as halves — you can split some and leave others whole.
  • Your full-court hourly rate, peak and off-peak, for each court you're splitting.
  • A quiet moment. Renaming courts changes what customers see on your booking page, so it's best done outside busy hours.

The five steps

Do them in order. Nothing appears on your booking page until all five are done.

    Mark your venue as basketball

    Settings → Directory → Sport Types → tick Basketball → Save

    This is the switch that turns the whole feature on. Half-court and full-court options only ever appear for venues listed as basketball — that's what stops other sports from getting court-splitting options they don't want.

    Add each half as its own court

    Courts → Add Court

    One physical court becomes two courts in ManageSports — one per end. Give them the same name, then finish one with A and the other with B:

    Capital letters don't matter — court 1a works the same as Court 1A. Both halves must exist before the full-court option shows up.

    Watch out

    Any two courts sharing a name and ending in A and B will pair up. If you name courts Court A and Court B for two separate courts, they'll be offered as one "Court (Full Court)". Rename them to something like Court 1 and Court 2 instead.

    Price each half

    Set the Peak Rate and Off-Peak Rate on each half separately. The full-court price your customers see is simply the two halves added together.

    So if you rent the full court at 800 per hour, put 400 on each half. Booking the full court then costs 800, and either half alone costs 400.

    You can price the ends differently if one is better — a 450 / 350 split still adds up to an 800 full court. Day-specific rates work the same way, so set those on each half too.

    Keep in mind

    There's no separate full-court price to type in. If your full court should cost more than two halves, raise both half rates until they add up to what you want.

    Make both halves bookable

    On each half, check that:

    • Active (available for booking) is ticked
    • Show on public booking page is ticked
    • Open Play Court is unticked

    If either half is hidden, inactive, or set to open play, the full-court option disappears — ManageSports won't offer a full court it can't sell both ends of.

    Check it on your booking page

    Settings → General → Public Booking → Appearance → Booking Layout

    All three layouts — Standard, Facebook Style and Instagram Style — show half and full court options, so keep whichever you already use. Then open your public booking page and confirm the Full Court row appears above each A/B pair.

What your customers see

  • An extra Full Court row sits above each pair, with the two halves listed underneath it.
  • Tapping a full-court slot selects both ends at once; tapping a half selects just that end.
  • The full-court price shown is the two halves combined, and the summary and confirmation both read "Court 1 (Full Court)" rather than listing two lines.
  • If someone has already booked Court 1A at 7pm, the full court at 7pm shows as unavailable — but Court 1B is still open for someone else to book.

What changes in your back office

  • A full-court booking is stored as two bookings, one per half. That's deliberate — it's what makes double-booking impossible — so expect two rows in your calendar, reports and invoices for every full-court session.
  • When you create a booking from the admin calendar, the court picker gains Full / A / B buttons for each pair.
  • Recurring schedules get the same buttons — a team can hold the full court every Monday, or just one end.
  • Nothing happens to existing bookings. Bookings made before you split a court stay exactly as they are.

If something doesn't look right

What you're seeing What to do

One pair works, another doesn'tCompare the two names character for character. The text before the A and the B must match exactly — "Court 2A" and "Court 2 B" won't pair, because one has a space and the other doesn't.
Full Court is unavailable at a time both halves look freeOne end is likely mid-checkout. A customer's payment hold lasts 30 minutes and releases on its own if they don't pay.
Two courts that aren't halves got paired togetherThey're named like a pair. Rename one so it doesn't end in A or B — for example "Court A" and "Court B" become "Court 1" and "Court 2".
The full-court price is wrongIt's always the two halves added together. Adjust the peak and off-peak rates on each half until the total is what you want.
A half is missing from the booking pageOpen that court and check that Show on public booking page and Active are both ticked, and Open Play Court is not.
